Martin
Martin is an approximately 1 year old, 12lb Pomeranian coming into rescue as an owner-surrender from a remote Northern Canadian community.
Martin is a truly affectionate little cuddle bug! He loves to give kisses and just can't get enough of being petted and cuddled; he always wants to be close to his people. He's not tested with children or cats. Martin is comfortable with his foster sister at home and seemingly with dogs in general. He's not shy or anxious and doesn't display separation anxiety—he's working out that we always come back! Martin does like to be the centre of attention so we are working on manners!
Martin is very playful, he happily entertains himself, with toys and chewy things from the toy basket at home. He's always up to play, he can fetch and loves tug of war or tag in the garden with his foster sister, no major resource guarding with toys but he does love to hide them when playing outside.
Martin is working on improving his reactivity with new people and dogs on walks. When meeting well–socialized, confident dogs at the fence he is able to calm down and introduce himself nicely with some clear redirection and patience.
This little puppy is full of energy and excitement! He would benefit greatly from basic obedience and agility training classes or other enrichment activities. He would really thrive once focused and comfortable. He's working on basic commands at the moment including "look", "sit", "stop" "stay" "down" and doing very well! He's also great with baths and grooming, very trusting and compliant!
Martin is a character, he can sit like a person and he can stand and walk on his back legs, it's adorable. He's very curious about everything and likes to jump and explore. He can jump quite high for a little guy and sometimes ends up in places he shouldn't be, like tabletops and beds. We are working on house rules and boundaries and he's doing a little better each day—smart cookie!
Potty training, check! There might be a little regression or marking initially in a new forever home but there have been zero accidents after week 1 in his foster home. Once he knows the routine he follows it.
Martin eats like a champ and is food motivated, which is great for training. He and his foster sister are fed separately to ensure everyone gets to eat their entire meal! He just wants to know that she doesn't have something better than him.
Shoes and socks beware! If left unattended they might get love bites! Martin is curious about everything but, is not destructive. Martin sleeps through the night with no issues and just loves to be close to you for good night and good morning kisses and cuddles.
Martin is almost finished with his vetting and we are accepting applications on him now.
